Bedbug

Currently there are around 20 genuses, 100 species of bugs. The most relatable to human are cimex lectularius and cimex hemipterius, both of which are hematophagus that are greatly hazardous to human. The life of a bug includes three phases: egg, nymph and adult. Bugs feed on blood to provide nutrition for growing. All nymphs of each phase can only grow after sucking blood. It takes 6-9 minutes for a nymph to suck blood, 3-12 minutes for an adult, which needs blood every 3-5 days. Adults can tolerate starvation well, normally for 6-7 months, or 1 year at most. Young nymphs can only endure starvation for 3 months, not so long as adults. Normally, bugs enter your house on clothes, suitcases or used furniture. If you stay at a bug-infected location, bugs will climb on your clothes or into your suitcase and climb out after you arrive home.

The hazard of bedbugs
  • Bedbug bites are not easily noticed, except a small bump on the skin. But the most common symptom that needs doctor treatment is the red maculopapules of 2-5 millimeters. Some patients even have blisters with unbearable pain and itch, which could lead to secondary infection. However, due to the bioactive proteins contained in bugs’ saliva, patients will suffer from severe immune reactions or allergy syptoms when they are bit for a second time.
  • Bedbug are suspected to be able to transmit over 40 human diseases. Bedbug can be infected multiple pathogen in experiments, but they’re not yet found to be transmitting disease in current natural conditions.
  • Bedbug are especially dangerous to hotels, which will suffer great loss including extra cleaning cost, income decrease caused by replacing furniture and beddings, thorough room cleaning and refitting, negative media reports as well as costs related to lawsuits and compensation.
