Flea
Flea is a type of parasitic insects in small sizes, no wings and strong jumping ability. There are 2300 species of fleas in the world, around 500 of which are found in China. An adult flea is 2-3mm in length, flat shaped in the left and right of its brown colored body. Its body wall is hard and smooth, with bristle pointing backwards to make it easier for it to move between the hair of its host. Having piercing-sucking mouthparts, both male and female fleas are hematophagia. Fleas have no wings but strong legs. A starving flea can jump as high as 30-38cm and as far as 12-23cm.

The hazard of fleas
- For allergic people, fleabites can cause certain skin diseases, especially in the summer. If there are pets at home and unclean, fleas will propagate which may easily induce seasonal eczema to the people bitten.
- Bubonic plague bacillus is a tiny bacillus that causes plague. It can be transmitted to human through fleas on rats, thus causing plague.
- Sting, itches and disease transmission. The body parts stung will feel extreme itches, which cause great disturbance. Some people, especially kids, could suffer from papule and wheal after being stung. Fleas mainly transmit plague, endemic thphus (murine thpyus) and certain types of taeniasis.
