Fly
The life of a fly includes these phases: flyblow, larva (3 ages), prepupa, pupa and adult. Though the life of a fly merely lasts a month, a female fly can lay 500-1000 eggs. There are more than 4000 named species of flies, around 500 of which can be found in China. Flies can spawn for life after only one mating. A female fly can lay 5-6 times in its life, with 100-150 eggs (around 300 eggs at most) each time. 10-12 generations of flies can be bred within a year. The 7 most common flies in Shanghai are chrysomya megacephala, musca domestica vicina, lucilia sericata, lucilia cuprina, sarcophagidae, musca sorbens and muscina stabulans.

Flies carry various pathogenic micro-organisms and can transmit diseases including cholera, paracholera, dysentery, typhia, poliomyelitis, infectious hepatitis, blister and ascariasis. As flies instinctively follow fragrance and stink, vomit and excrete while eating, they leave germs everywhere, thus becoming a great threat to food industry and one of “the four pests”.
